I am pleased to announce that the updated version of my book 'Basic Drum Kit Studies' is now available for purchase.
The first edition was written in 2001.
Since then I have made many improvements and enhancements to the original book.
The book is now divided into 20 lessons, each containing Technique, Reading, Grooves and Fills.
The great thing about this new format is that each exercise can be practiced individually, or the entire lesson can be played from top to bottom.
The lessons are written in such a way that they can be played as a single exercise.
Keep an eye out on this blog for play along audio and video clips of these lessons.
This is a catchy Pop song with a straight rock beat throughout.
Keep an eye out for the rests on the repeat of the verse.
There's one fill leading into the final chorus that you should work out before playing the song.
Steve Jordan has the ability to make something that is so simple sound amazing.
As Steve says "There's a big difference between easy and simple".
The Intro, verse and chorus have set kick patterns which lock in with the bass guitar.
As the song progresses the kick pattern varies, particularly in the solo section.
Use your ears to choose a kick pattern that compliments the music.
This is a great beginner song, and one that I've been teaching for many years.
There is a set groove for each section - intro, verse and chorus.
There are no fills, which makes it an ideal song for learning how to groove while changing between different rock beats.
'Yellow' uses grooves from Lessons 2 & 3, with the addition of open hi hats (Lesson 6) in the verses.
